Absorption
In nature, vitamins and minerals are molecularly bonded to proteins, carbohydrates and lipids in a complex food matrix, which means the body recognises them as food, and absorbs them quickly and easily.

Many supplements, however, have been isolated or extracted from their natural "food state", making it much harder for the body to recognise them and use them properly. Natural, or "food state" nutrients are absorbed up to five times more effectively than commercially available vitamins and inorganic mineral salts, and are retained up to 16 times longer by the body. This is why it makes more sense to get your vitamins and minerals through a varied and healthy, wholesome diet.

The complex food structures found in whole food also contain a broader variety of trace elements than traditional supplements. These all work together to aid the body's absorption and use of the vitamins and minerals contained in what you eat.

Pressures on the environment and lifestyles make it very difficult, however, to get all the nutrients we need. Research shows that the average person generates about 5 000 ORAC units of free radicals each day, but only obtains about 1 250 ORAC units of antioxidants through their diet. And so we turn to supplements.

Aspalathox™ is extracted from the Rooibos plant through a unique process using only purified water as a solvent. All the flavanoids and phenolic acids remain chemically unaltered, which means they are in their natural food state. The body is therefore able to recognise Aspalathox™ as a natural food complex, and take full advantage of its potent antioxidant and health-promoting properties.
